If you choose a storyline to bring past characters back what would it be and which characters?

Bevan Lee was very good at weaving the old into the new, I admired that.  Floss forseeing Aden in the then old Diner for example, and the way Milco was retconned in without rewriting too much history.  Bringing back Kirsty and then Fisher to work at the school.

But like you say it was a different era, nearly itself 20 years ago.

Agreed. I don't know who brought Jesse back in 2002 or Steven and Marilyn in 1995 but I feel all three worked out really well.

Even Sally's brief 2013, she integrated very well with new and old cast. Also, Marilyn and Roo's 2010 returns were also done very well.

Jesse was fine until he and Leah split and was going down a self-destructive path which culminated in Chloe's death and his imprisonment he was... never heard from again.

Yeah that was disappointing. He could have left with Josie or Chloe. Poor Jesse ending up back in jail. I wish we got to see him again. Ben Unwin did quite acting I think after Jesse so they probably just scrapped any idea of bringing him back. It's a shame because it would have been good to bring him back, even if briefly... especially when Olivia returned ten years later.

She would A) have hated his guts B) or realised he was genuinely remorseful and defended him from Alf and Irene

Even the current retcons could have been done without too much effort, but the current producers just don't care.

The Martha one would have been better had it been written that Alf told Ailsa about it at the time and she agreed to keep it a secret. She more than anyone knows the need to run away and start afresh.

The Marilyn/Heather one would have worked had it happened after Byron and Donald, rather than before and make a mockery of their journey.

Honestly, Sally could work as a returning character.

They'd have to purpose build s new school set because I don't think Kate would come back just to change grody sheets in the caravan park!
