What was the last Movie you watched?

Toy Story 1 and 2. Both as great as I remembered them to be, if not better, but I found it a bit harder to believe that even Andy wasn't confused by Woody and Buzz suddenly appearing in the car at the end, or that his mother wasn't confused by the appearance of Jessie and Bullseye, or the truck parked across from her house. Also, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines. As good as I remembered it, and a lot better than Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. But I wish they hadn't screwed up the dates from the first 2. -

Rashomon - better than Seven Samurai and Hidden Fortress, but I really can't get into Kurosawa for some reason. I'll have to track down the Western remake. -

Mean Streets. See Have a Moan thread. -

Il Buono, Il Brutto, Il Cattivo. Better in almost every way than Per un Pugno di Dollari, but it was too long and slow moving, and I don't think Il Cattivo did enough. -

I like it too, but I prefer the Alien movies, especially the first two, to the Predators, although I do think that Arnold's performance in Predator is his best outside of the Terminator series. The best thing for me though about AVP was Lance Henriksen - Saana Lathan was no Sigourney Weaver. I watched Holes earlier, for the first time in about four years - still great, but it made me a little more aware of the holes in the plot, like, how does Stanley not figure out from the beginning that Hector stole the sneakers? or that he's descended from Madame Zeroni (remember that in this version his grandfather tells him the story in more detail in the book)? The acting though was brilliant, from pretty much all of the cast, and the book is still one of my favourites. -

Roger and Me: I don't really know how to compare it to Columbine or Fahrenheit 9/11, but it was good and it made its point. -

Beast with a Billion Backs - Better than what I'd been led to believe it was (a 90-minute dirty joke) but compared to the mind-blowing script of Bender's Big Score, which was also an integral part of the show's mythology, it sucked. Would have worked better as a half-hour episode, or maybe a two-parter. However, I did love the Futurama the Game cutscenes, although it cut one of my favourite lines, "In your face, non-playable characters!" I must get around to finishing that, even though it obviously isn't canon. -

Wall-E. Flawless, aside from the scene in outer space where he's using the fire extinguisher for propulsion. I'm sure there was a problem with the physics there. Presto was fantastic as well. -

I just watched the finalists from Tropfest 2007. My favourite would have to be "Between the Flags," which is over 5 minutes of banter between an Aussie guy and a Lebonese guy who show up on the beach on the day of the Cronulla riots. They end up playing cricket for a couple of hours before they find out they're on the wrong beach. My least favourite was "Bad Yoghurt," a couple of minutes of a woman projectile vomiting after eating expired yoghurt. -

Cars, except I had to miss the last half hour thanks to the Bill. But I'd seen it before anyway. Not bad, but not up to the standard of Finding Nemo and Toy Story 2. I love the bit in the drive-in cinema (is their any other kind?!) at the end. -
Sean, who was seen in 2005 and got arrested after beating Ric up and kidnapping Flynn, and Justin, mentioned a couple of times by Larry as having run away from home in response to his grandfather's abuse.

Hidden Fortress: Slightly better but it didn't really hold my attention and was at least half an hour too long. Star Wars was better. -

My God, how has anybody ever sat through the Seven Samurai and enjoyed it?! I'm really not optimistic about Hidden Fortress or Rashomon anymore. -

I'm nearly a third of the way through The Seven Samurai, and I'm finding it seriously overrated. The Magnificent Seven was more entertaining. Hell, A Bug's Life (same basic plot played for comedy) was more entertaining. -

Live Free or Die Hard - Better than I expected, in many ways. Bruce Willis was as entertaining as ever, Justin Long was excellent, Maggie Q awesome, Mary Elizabeth Winstead good (thank the IPU they didn't cast Jessica Simpson or Britney Spears in her role) Timothy Olyphant adequate, but no Alan Rickman. The action was electrifying, but pretty unrealistic even by Action standards. Overall, great, but not the classic that was Die Hard. But I'm glad it was the non-theatrical release. Also, In Bed With Madonna, a really compelling documentary. I now have Express Yourself on my music shopping list. -

Microcosmos, a movie I had not seen since my Grade 2 class were forced to, and 7-year-old me which found dead boring. The one image that got my attention and that I still remembered 11 years later was the ladybug getting flipped on its back by a raindrop. It was a bit more interesting this time, thanks to the discussion about Miramixing films and whether wildlife films should be considered documentaries. I'd still rather watch Antz though. -

Bowling for Columbine, which wasn't as good as Fahrenheit 9/11. I think I prefer Michael Moore when he sticks to narrating and is offscreen for as much of the movie as possible. -

The Conversation, directed by Francis Ford Coppola and starring an almost unrecognisable Gene Hackman. Slow moving and downright boring at times, but shocking at the end, although I did feel like I should have seen it coming. I must get around to finishing The Godfather Part 2. -

Shaft, the original Richard Roundtree version. Disappointing, even worse than Undercover Brother. I'll have to put the Samuel L. Jackson version on my list. -

Gimme Shelter, the 1969 documentary about the Rolling Stones concert at Altamont. Interesting, but it didn't hold my attention the whole way through. -

Indiana Jones and the last Crusade. Just as good as I remembered it, but Raiders is still the best. Also, Olympia, which is, depending on who you ask, a groundbreaking sports documentary about the 1936 Olympic Games or a propaganda piece glorifying Nazi Germany. I'm in the former group, compared to Triumph of the Will, it's pretty easy to ignore the politics and just be impressed by the filmmaking and the athletes, especially the high-jumpers. -

Friday the Thirteenth Part 2: Not Scream or Urban Legend, but it delivered some reasonably effective scares, and less unpleasant than in the first one (I still haven't gotten over Kevin Bacon's murder). Ginny was a great heroine too, somewhere between Julie James and Nancy Thompson, I guess. Not impressed by the general level of character development but I got what I paid for. -

Nanook of the North, a 1920s ethnographic documentary about an Inuit (eskimo) hunter living near Lake Hudson. It was well produced, but you wouldn't believe how much of it was staged, even if it was authentic. I also watched the Geoffrey Wright version of Macbeth the other day, in the Melbourne ganglands. I'm not sure that it worked as well as the version of Hamlet set in New York with Ethan Hawke and Kyle MacLachlan, but it was better than Romeo + Juliet. -

I just watched Galaxy Quest for the umpteenth time, and it was somehow funnier than last time. I guess it helps that I've seen several of the original Star Trek episodes since the last time it was on TV and I'm getting more of the in-jokes. Now that is one movie that should get a sequel. I can see it now: "Galaxy Quest 2: The Wrath of (insert the name of an embittered former co-star of Jason Nesmith here)." The eponymous co-star (played by either Tom Hanks or Richard Karn) somehow allies himself with the equally vengeful family of Roth'h'ar Sarris and Jason has to call on the Thermians to save himself and the rest of the cast. -

The Dark Knight: Brilliant from beginning to end, with one minor weakness: I much preferred Katie Holmes to Maggie Gyllenhaal. Heath Ledger was awesome, but sadly not Oscar-worthy the way Brokeback Mountain was. Aaron Eckhart was probably closer, as was Christian Bale.
