Rewatching The Early Years
Luigi Severus Fletcher replied to Bobby Forever Missed's topic in The Bayside Diner
So, skipped a few and saw 183, 184 and 185 due to 7Plus removing it later tonight for the Walter Bertram hermit story and the abandoned house scenes. The latter was pretty cool and gave off the same vibes I get when listening to stories about abandoned houses (most of them being online horror stories known as "Creepypastas"). Plus, it sucks that Walter had to hide away due to small town Summer Bay residents possibly harming him. -

Like when I rewatched Prisoner in 2017 - 2018 with Meg Morris and Reb Kean, Ailsa's becoming a character I am liking more the second time I'm watching Home and Away. -

Just watched Episodes 27 and 28... I forgot how nasty and vindictive Roo was... Celia being told she has a mouth like Luna Park and Alf going off at her for blabbing about the stake out at the Pappas' farm... And that letter sent by the "Nutter" to Ailsa... Nasty. -

Weren't they just living with Roo and Harvey and not officially fostered? IIRC, John and Marilyn went through the proper channels to officially foster Jett? -

Facts! Like I stated earlier, unless we get a rehashed Fletcher storyline, I don't want anyone else moving into Summer Bay House, unless related to Alf in some way or a they're a classic character like Sally. Alf could always be the live-in landlord when the new foster family arrives to rent the house, I mean, houses are more expensive to purchase these days than they were in 1988. -
Did the walls of the sets ever wobble when a character was run into them? Or was that a Prisoner-only thing?

The Early Years really had a certain charm to it that the current show seems to lack, I love the current show, but it really needs an overhaul. Was it the music? Possibly. Was it the fostering concept? Possibly. It's been 36 years, they need to rehash some storylines... Prisoner did it. Karen Travers and Greg Miller/Petra Roberts and Scott Collins, Lynn Warner/Jenny Hartley, Bea Smith/Myra Desmond. I guess they tried the new family moving into the Summer Bay House-thing, but it never flew. Nashes and Sutherlands weren't like the Fletchers. Though, I don't want Alf to move out of the Summer Bay House either... -

Celia Stewart - Fiona Spence

Seeing Celia again in the 1988 episodes on 7+ makes me have the same feeling as I did seeing her scenes in 2010 on the 1988 reruns in 2009/2010... Bring. Her. Back. John is single, just sayin'. -

Episode 15... I forgot how unfiltered The Early Years were, not as unfiltered as Prisoner, but unfiltered. Other than that, it's interesting how small town Summer Bay be anti-Nico, other than the Fletchers, McPhees and Stewarts (Oh and the only Hogan). -
Does H&A need an overhaul at the moment?
Luigi Severus Fletcher replied to adam436's topic in General Discussion
It could do with a return to the fostering element and some more blasts from the past, but it is definitely better nowadays than when it was a teen drama in the 2000s - 2010s. It was fairly distributed in the 80s and 90s with focus on The Fletcher/Ross family, Fisher, Floss, Neville, Lance, Martin, Alf and Ailsa, Shane and Angel, Irene, Finn, Damien, Jack, Chloe, Selina, Shannon and Curtis, etc. It was somewhat like that in 2018 and 2019 before Summer Bay High seems to have become abandoned. -

Episode 14... "New bloke holds the sign" - Sam Barlow. Yep, he's here. Terrific actor Jeff Truman was, I really wish he was in Prisoner, I know the exact character he should have played in Prisoner. He would have pulled it off with flying colours! It was odd seeing the Summer Bay House half lit during Frank's band practice. -

I can see Donald and Walter's power games being similar to those of Vera and Erica's and Joan and Erica's/Ann's in Prisoner. Might have been entertaining to watch and I can see Don going behind Walter's back to do as he pleases. -

Noticed another Prisoner-alumni name in the ending credits of episode 12... Chris Adshead. Pretty cool. The Nico Pappas story is interesting, all I remember from my watch in 2009 was his bike getting smashed and a sign saying "GET RID OF DUMMY" being thrown on the remains and Jessie (the cow) being killed. -

It's so much cooler rewatching the 1988 episodes as I'm older... I understand more things and can speculate on other things. -
Was the Morris house (seen in episode 7) seen in any other episodes or shows? It looks familiar and I only saw Episode 7 for the first time AFAIK last week)?

Fisher to Lynn "I will not tolerate insolence" reminded me so much of Erica Davidson in Prisoner. I guess this is the first time the Summer Bay Nutter struck? Also, it seems the Davenports were part of the Quiverfull movement, from what I heard Tom say about the religious beliefs are part of the reason why Lynn was fostered. -
Did Floss say "cultural cringe" in Episode 9, when Neville said bagpipes were part of his cultural heritage?

Just got done watching Episode 8 and I never realized how strict Tom was, he always seemed like a joker, but then again, I watched bits and pieces of the 1988 reruns in 2009/2010, so I didn't see much. I know Michael was quite strict, but didn't think Tom was too. -

Rewatching the 1988 episodes... It's easy to forget how well spoken/posh some of the older often one-time/guest characters sounded... Very similar in Prisoner (I noticed this during my rewatch in 2017 and again in my recent rewatch 2022 - present). Fisher's the only main character who retains his well spoken accent throughout the show, which I understand. Also, reading that Dave Worthington worked on some of the eps makes this rewatch even cooler. Noticed his name in the opening credits in Prisoner. I wonder if I'll see the Grace Bros. Removals, Travelodge and Ansett logos in the Home and Away closing credits? Haha! Just kidding! XD -
Do you think they'd have ever axed Pippa?
Luigi Severus Fletcher replied to cymbaline's topic in The Bayside Diner
Axing Pippa would have possibly had the show go into a weird spot like Prisoner did once Bea left and Myra left (Ailsa's passing kinda had that feel). I can see they would have brought back Marilyn to foster or have Irene become a foster parent, like through the channels like Tom/Michael and Pippa went through. Or maybe brought back Carly and Ben or Frank and Roo to become foster parents. Also, referring to the above post, axing Irene would have probably put the show into a weird spot too. -
What was the last Movie you watched?
Luigi Severus Fletcher replied to Stefan's topic in General Chat
Nimona. A movie on Netflix that I had been longing to see as it looked cool. Since it was nominated for an Oscar, Netflix uploaded the movie in full to YouTube as a way to celebrate, so I watched it there. I thought it was gonna be good, didn't expect it to be amazing.
