There are basically 3 kinds of sentences. Simple, compound and complex.
Simple sentences consists of "one subject and one verb". I went to school.

school - (direct object)
There can be as many objects as you wish in simple sentences, but only one verb and one subject.
Compound sentences are composed of at least two independent clauses (clauses which makes sense on their own)joined by a coordinating conjunction, usually "and", "or", "but" (with or without a comma), a correlative conjunction (with or without a comma), or a semicolon with no conjunction. I went to school, but the school was closed.
I - subject
went - verb
school - (direct) object
but is the conjunction
school - (direct) object
was - verb
closed - adjective
A complex sentence is a sentencewith an independent clause and at least one dependent clause, a clause that does not make sense on its own, (subordinating clause) is referred to as a complex sentence. The dependent clause is often introduced by a subordinate conjunction such as "which", "while" or "because".
I went to school, which is far from my house
I - subject
went - verb
school - (direct) object
which is the subordinate conjunction
is - verb
